Thierry Senechal organized a 2-day workshop in Croatia covering the results of a study on access to finance in the Western Balkan region. This assignment consisted in a trade finance diagnostic in the Western Balkans region of Europe and Central Asia (ECA) to help policymakers to identify binding constraints to the development of trade finance instruments and generate recommendations to address these constraints, thereby supporting trade and private sector development. The diagnostic review covered six countries of the Former Yugoslavia (Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and Kosovo). The scope of the diagnostic review encompassed the main institutions involved in the finance of SMEs in these countries. In addition, the diagnostic review reviewed barriers for international banks and multilateral institutions to provide trade finance services to corporates in the Western Balkans Region.
