The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has hired FINANCE FOR IMPACT/GOPA to advise on the Tinga Fund's restructuring and propose concrete ways of improving and streamlining the business model.
The Tinga Fund project aims to facilitate access to electricity for the most vulnerable households at a subsidized cost. Togo’s Electrification Strategy (2018-2030) has set ambitious targets for the extension and densification of the national electricity grid. It recognized the essential role of off-grid technologies, such as mini-grids and solar kits. Since adopting Togo’s Electrification Strategy, several flagship initiatives have been implemented by the Government, raising the electrification rate from 40% in 2017 to 63% in 2022. However, more than a third of the population remains without electricity due to structural and economic barriers.
FINANCE FOR IMPACT will review the Fund’s architecture and propose recommendations to restructure its capital and governance model. Advisory services will also be provided to strengthen risk sharing and mobilize private sector capital into the fund.
